Charges on Conversion of PIO to OCI Card
w.e.f. 1st January 2018

The Government of India has withdrawn the Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) Card scheme vide Gazette Notification No. 25024/9/2014F.I dated 09.01.2015 and replaced it with Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) scheme.

The conversion of PIO Card to OCI card is Gratis (free of cost) up to 31 December, 2017. Applicants applying for conversion after 31 December 2017 will have to pay a fee of US$ 275 (Fee for issuing a fresh OCI Card).

The International Civil Aviation Organisation will accept only machine readable travel documents from October 2018 onwards. In that context, it is again mandatory that all existing PIO cards (hand-written) will become invalid after October 2018 and they must be converted into a machine readable OCI Cards.
In view of the above, all PIO Card holders are hereby informed to get their PIO Cards converted into OCI Cards before expiry of deadline i.e. 31st December 2017.
