Banaras is the Spiritual Capital of India that carries an essence of mysticism in its air. The city draws Hindu pilgrims and spiritual travel enthusiasts from all over the world. This documentary looks at Kashi from the different perspectives of the original thinkers and explorers. It pans through the city’s original developer’s outlook and sees the city in a manner that covers and brings out the contributions the city has to the knowledge of learning, to live a more meaningful life that may lead to an afterlife of moksha and peace.

Kashi is the spiritual centre of the universe, every breath taken in Kashi feels like it brings one closer to the almighty. It is an imperial part of the SaptaPuri in Hinduism and Jainism, and played an important role in the development of Buddhism. Some Hindus believe that death at the banks of the river Ganga is the easiest path to Moksha (salvation). Scholarly books have been written in the city, including the Ramcharitmanas of Tulsidas. The film is a compilation of the contributions of the different spiritual thinkers associated with the city and its heritage.

The film shows the faith and worshiping practices of Shiv bhakts in a new light, it highlights the importance of the geographical etymology of the holy city. Built on the structure of a trident (A Trishul) the city is a manifestation of the presence of Lord Shiva himself. It is a place that hence forms the centre of the Hindu universe. It has devotees of all ages coming in hordes to take a dip in the holy Ganges and cleanse their selves of a lifetime of sins. And more significantly, to lead a life that ends at Kashi and sends them straight on the path of Moksha, film brings them closer to the creator in one way or another.

The spiritual capital of India is where the cultural practices revolving around different techniques and types of music, art, craft and literature originates. The practices have transcended from generation to generation adapting itself to the developing times of the world. Adding newer material and techniques where ever possible and still maintaining the authentic essence of the original practices.

5. Kashi Ganga Vishveshvarai

The name Varanasi is an amalgamation of the names of the two tributaries of the Holy river of Ganga, Varuna and Asi. The vast river turns northward only to visit Lord Shiva’s favourite city, Kashi. There is strange sense of serenity amidst the chaos in Kashi, and the best way to experience it is to take a boat ride along the river Ganga. Kashi the spiritual capital of India, is a city that shares a symbiotic relationship between the river and itself as depicted in the film.

The one eternal truth of life, is the end of it. It is inevitable and uncertain, Hinduism talks about a life after death. A form of life where one receives Moksha, or Mukti from the bindings of a human life, where the soul transcends into the peaceful unknown. Varansi is believed to be the gateway of Mukti hence, is termed as Muktidham. Souls released at this holy sanctuary are lead directly on the path of peace and enlightenment. The film pans through the origination and practice revolving around this faith.
