Remarks by Consul General Dr. Madan Mohan Sethi on the Reception hosted by Consulate General of India in HCMC on the occasion of 50th Anniversary of Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between India and Vietnam on 6th January, 2022

Good Evening,
Ladies and Gentlemen,

Today is a significant day and year 2022 is a milestone for both India and Vietnam as we will be celebrating 50 th anniversary of establishment of our diplomatic relationship. With Vietnam, India enjoys excellent friendly and cordial relations. Our relationship in the last 50 years have become more stronger with passage of time. Both countries have stood for each other in times of crisis and need. Our cooperation and partnership is extensive and based on mutual need and mutual interests.

Vietnam is one of the most important component in our Indo-Pacific Ocean Initiative and part of our Look East and Act East Policy. As Hon’ble PM spoke, our linkage with Vietnam is across commerce, culture and connectivity. Apart from our historical connectivity, Buddhism and Yoga also bind us together.

Both India and Vietnam are on high growth trajectories. In spite of Covid crisis, economy of both countries are showing positive growth. Vietnam, due to many supporting factors, have become an attractive destination for FDI and is becoming an important component of global supply chain. With large percentage of population of young age,emergence of a middle class and rapid economic growth, Vietnam will continue to become an attractive market for foreign investors for coming years. The road, air and port connectivity within Vietnam and of Vietnam with outside world is really remarkable. With 14 FTA’s in its basket, Vietnam is the country to watch for by international economists.

India is an important trade partner of Vietnam. Both countries have strength in similar industrial products line. Business people from both sides can explore to find common grounds for partnership. Indian companies can explore investment in Vietnam in areas of smart agriculture, manufacturing, food processing, textile, infrastructure, renewable energy, port and airport development apart from IT, higher education, medical care and training.

I invite provincial leaders to hold discussion with us to plan partnership and cooperation in different fields of mutual need and mutual benefit.Indian Consulate will be happy to extend its helping hand. It is in interest of India to see a highly prosperous and developed Vietnam for regional peace, prosperity and development.

I thank each of you present here who believes in this relationship between the two most friendly countries.

Let happiness, prosperity and success accrue to both India and Vietnam.
